Product ID : 16060801
Product Attributes :
  1. Extreme Environment Resistance: Engineered with high-temperature XLPE or thin-wall insulation (e.g., SAE GXL, ISO 6722 FLRY-B) to withstand continuous exposure to engine oil, fuel, and temperatures exceeding 125°C.
  2. Vibration-Proof Sealed Interfaces: Incorporates automotive-grade connectors (such as TE MCON or Aptiv Metri-Pack) featuring integrated TPA/CPA locks and single-wire seals to maintain signal integrity under severe engine vibration.
  3. EMI/RFI Shielding Options: Available with foil or braided shielding to protect sensitive crank position signals from electromagnetic interference generated by ignition coils and high-current wiring.
  4. Precision Dimensional Control: Manufactured on CNC formboards to exact geometric tolerances, ensuring the harness routes correctly without tension or abrasion against hot engine components.
  5. 100% Continuity Validation: Every finished assembly undergoes automated point-to-point electrical testing to guarantee zero opens/shorts and correct pin-to-pin mapping per the IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard.

Product Description

Introduction

A crankshaft position sensor harness is a purpose-built interconnect assembly that links the CKP sensor—mounted at the engine block or transmission bellhousing—to the engine control unit (ECU/PCM) and related grounds or shields. Unlike generic jump wires, it is designed to withstand the most punishing under-hood conditions: radiant and conductive heat from the exhaust manifold, splashing engine oil and coolant mist, road salt spray, and sustained wideband vibration. Its core job is to carry clean, time-accurate crank speed/position information (and, where required, sensor supply/return) so the ECU can synchronize fuel injection, ignition dwell, and misfire diagnostics. Because even micro-ohm interruptions here can translate into sync loss, rough idle, or a no-start event, the harness is engineered as a sensor-critical signal chain, not just a cable carrier.

Functions

The CKP harness plays an indispensable role in modern engine management systems (EMS). Its core function is the real-time transmission of crankshaft positional data, which the ECU uses to calculate precise ignition timing and fuel injector synchronization. Without accurate input from this harness, the ECU cannot determine when to fire the spark plugs relative to piston position, leading to inefficient combustion. Furthermore, it enables critical safety functions such as rev-limiter control and misfire detection. The impact of a compromised harness is immediate: signal attenuation or open circuits trigger diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), cause rough idling, and in severe cases, prevent engine startup entirely. Thus, the harness is not merely a wire carrier but a vital component ensuring engine reliability and emission compliance.

TE Connectivity MCON 1.2 / 1.5

The MCON 1.2/1.5 system is a compact blade-interface family designed for under-hood vibration and temperature extremes, with copper-alloy contacts and optional tin/silver/gold contact-area platings. Its practical advantage in CKP duty is secondary locking (TPA/auxiliary lock) that makes terminal pushback visible and tactile; combine that with Single Wire Seals and polarized keys, and you remove two classic failure modes—partial seating and micro-gap under resonance. Because the 1.2/1.5 mm platform supports standardized crimp tooling and reel-fed terminals, it also integrates well with repeatable, auditable crimp-quality programs.

Aptiv (Delphi) Metri-Pack 150 Series

Metri-Pack 150 targets sensor-scale circuits (commonly ~0.35–1.0 mm² / 20–16 AWG) with a 1.5 mm blade width and tight centerline options, making it a natural fit for OE-style CKP headers. The sealed variants employ wire-seal geometry plus TPA/CPA features so the assembler (and anyone servicing the bay) gets unmistakable confirmation of full engagement. For replacement or service harnesses, especially, specifying Metri-Pack 150 avoids adapter hacks and preserves correct keying, while its −40…+125°C envelope comfortably covers typical CKP ambient. It’s the “right-size” interface: not overbuilt, not underspecified.

Molex MX150 Sealed Connector System

Where the CKP tie-point must survive pressure washing, heavy oil mist, and aggressive vibration profiles, MX150 earns its place. The system uses a mat-seal/interfacial seal approach that keeps sealing consistent across 2/3/4-way layouts, and it bakes in TPA/CPA discipline so incomplete mating becomes obvious. Quoted envelopes (system-dependent) can support higher sealed-circuit confidence while remaining compact (~3.50 mm pitch) and crimp-terminated. In short: if the failure mode you fear is seal creepor washout, MX150’s sealing architecture and polarized mating are why we reach for it.

Wire selection

We specify insulation systems, not just “AWG,” because the block-side environment punishes generic PVC.
  • SAE GXL / TXL (XLPE) – cross-linked polyethylene gives stronger oil/fuel/heat resistance and tighter abrasion tolerance than GPT; ideal for many North-American under-hood routes.
  • ISO 6722 FLRY-B / FLYW – thin-wall, flexible, high-temp capable (often +125…+150°C class), excellent where bundling is tight and mass matters.
  • JASO AVSS / AESS – lightweight thin-wall constructions common on Asian-platform builds.
Typical CKP circuits land around 20–16 AWG (0.5–1.5 mm²): enough copper for Hall supply/ground loops, conservative voltage drop, and mechanically robust strands, while staying flexible enough to route without fighting the installer.

Auxiliary & sheath materials

  • Corrugated conduit: PA6/PA12 nylon for crush/abrasion and higher heat zones; PVC only when the route is cooler and oil exposure is indirect.
  • Braided sleeves: PET expandable or Nomex where the run passes sharp edges or hot manifolds, plus anti-rattle fleece tape in clip zones.
  • Sealing elements: silicone/rubber grommets, drain-wire treatment, and dual-wall adhesive heat shrink at transition points so oil vapor doesn’t wick into the bundle.

Quality Control

Every harness reference has a “must-fit” envelope; we control length by hard-tooled formboards, stop-collars, and marked datum points, so the as-built run matches the drawing and clears hot neighbors. More importantly, each finished harness receives a 100% continuity/point-to-point test on configured test sets: every circuit is proven closed, every cross-circuit is proven open, and pin-to-pin mapping is verified against the schematic before it leaves the cell. That step is what guarantees the circuit you ordered is the circuit you get—no swapped sensor leads, no missed strands, no hidden opens masked by “it beeped once.”
